Tennis Court Resurfacing in Kent
Court Resurfacing Kent
Having a tennis court is a fantastic addition to any property, but it is inevitable that as the court surface ages, resurfacing becomes necessary. Tennis court resurfacing is a service that we are highly skilled in. We can take even the most run-down-looking court and transform it, so it looks as good as new!
The works required for a resurface depend on the overall condition of your court. But here is a breakdown of the key components of how we carry out a resurface.
- First, we thoroughly clean the existing surface to ensure that all debris, moss and any vegetation have been removed. We do this with a pressure washer or a rotary cleaner. This gives us a clean surface to work with.
- Next, we will install a brick edging around the court’s perimeter. Generally with a thickness of between 32mm- 55mm depending on the existing surface condition.
- We then break out the existing post sockets and install new ones, ensuring they are embedded in concrete.
- The next step is to spike the existing surface at approximately 500mm centres; these holes are then filled with drainage chippings.
- If there is damage to the existing surface, we will remove any loose sections and then install limestone into these parts and compact it.
- Next, a tack coat of bitumen is applied.
- Now the court is ready for the new surface to be laid. This is carried out by installing metal sections on top of the old court and then laying tarmac between each section and raking it, so it’s flush with the top of the metal. The tarmac is then rolled to compact it, leaving you with a completely level surface.
- The lines are now added.
- After about three weeks, the court is ready to apply the colour coat. We tape up the lines and then use an airless spray-textured top coat.
- New posts and nets fitted, and any other remedial works carried out (Fencing, landscaping, etc.)
- Your newly refurbished court is now ready for you to enjoy for years to come!
This procedure outlines how a tennis court is resurfaced; however, every scenario is different, and we will always use our skills and experience to ensure that the works we are carrying out are specifically suited to your court’s needs.

How often is tennis court resurfacing required?
A tennis court usually requires resurfacing every four to eight years. Many variables need to be taken into consideration. But a tell-tell sign that your court has reached a point where resurfacing may be necessary include large cracks appearing, peeling off the surface, and puddles. Obviously, the more the court is used, the more frequently resurfacing will be required. In many instances, commercial courts need resurfacing more regularly than residential courts due to their heavy usage.
It is advisable to ensure that your court is kept as clean as possible. Any leaves and twigs should be swept up; ensure any algae and moss is removed regularly and any rubbish and debris removed. Making sure that food or drink spilt on the court is cleaned immediately will also prevent any adverse effect that it may have if it is acidic.
Some small preventative measures will help to increase the longevity of your court; and should enable you to gain years of pleasure from it.
How long does it take to resurface a tennis court?
To resurface a tennis court usually takes around three to four weeks; however, this is not a continuous process. Once the initial works have been carried out, including laying the new base, it needs to dry before the airless top coat is applied, and then finally, the net is installed.
